Mercedes C-Class Running Costs
Overall Average Rating: 85.41%
Position in the Top 100 cars: 51st
With the latest BMW 3-Series recording yet another top 25 result, this is disappointing for a firm that once prided itself on its engineering.
The C-Class does not do too badly in any category, but high running costs and poor practicality take the edge off. Main plus points are the ride and drive.
Manufacturer Verdict (Position: 9th)
Comfortably into the top 10, Mercedes has closed the gap on BMW. Third place for ease of driving and fourth for ride help, but the firm can improve on its 26th place out of 35 for running costs.

Build quality and ride are excellent, performance is good, although not as sharp as might be expected from 220bhp, while the overall mpg of 26 over 20,000 miles is acceptable. The cabin confers a nice feeling of security, but the rear visibility is appalling and access to the rear seats is relatively difficult. The seats are very poor and the rake adjustment knob is in a position that is difficult to reach. They habe virtually no support for thighs or lumbar - leather doesn't help. However, the worst aspect of the whole car is the steering, which is heavy, ponderous, provides no real feedback and has very little by way of self-centreing. A comparison with the equivalent BMW would be terminally embarrasing for Mercedes, although Mercedes ownership doesn't make the general public think that the driver is a twat. Why did I buy it then? Well, I like coupes and I guess I'm not the first person to have been seduced by 3 doors and a badge!

I got this motor at a cheap lease cost in April 09. They must have had a glut of cars at the time as I would not be able to have the car now that prices have leveled.
The car looks brilliant!! Rides very well! Wished that I had gone for the C220 rather than the C200 CDI Sport. It needs more urgency. The A4 I had before could almost pull the tyres off and the Merc is supposed to have as many horses but I think they must have judged it with ponies!
Wished the front seats had leather and not plastic!
And finally............ Everybody thinks you have an extra tenner, and with another three pined to each point of the star!
Roll on 2011 and back to Audi I go!

The car is excellent as is my garage from which I bought it. What is SUPERB is Mercedes' service. When I left the lights on in Belgium Mercedes came in 15 minutes at 0745, charged the battery and charged EUR 10! Or was it EUR15? I can't remember but it was so cheap! When my Mercedes van broke down, again in Belgium, my driver did not have Euros to pay but Mercedes had it fixed by a local garage, did not ask for a payment in advance and invoiced me later from their UK office. I would like another VW but this service has persuaded me that I must always buy Mercedes.

The most comfortable car I've owned for sometime. It's performance and economy are very surprising, I have been very impressed with the whole process of buying it from the Mercedes Main Dealer.
I am 6ft3 and as such space is a premium inside. The only problem with it is rear leg room, especially behind me, that said I have no complaints at all ( I don't sit in the back).

My car has a 2.5 ltr turbo charged diesel engine with an automatic gearbox which gives plenty of smooth power and remarkable acceleration when required. I take trouble to keep the vehicle well serviced, engine and body work, and see no reason why it should not last for a considerable time.

The car is excellent in every way BUT Mercedes service and parts are so expensive that I no longer take it to a Mercedes dealer for anything. They quoted (from a Mercedes list) £1060 to supply and fit a towbar and trailer electrics. Elsewhere £300 incl bypass.

Comfortable, reliable, safe and very economical.
It is a c220 cdi manual model giving 45 mpg plus.
Insurance is also as cheap as a nissan.
The only thing I would change is the foot operated parking brake which can be tricky to use with a manual gearbox.

On the whole pleased with the car. However the fuel comsumption is oiver 10% down on manufacturers figures. The Blue Efficiency model should return 47MPG on a run I( am lucky to obtain 34MPG. In Town this is down to 29! Mercedes DO NOT want to know!!!.

An outstanding car. I have the 320CDI Sport Estate and it goes like a sports car, takes a family and their luggage, handles brilliantly does about 40mpg and rides very well. It is everything I could want in a car. On top of that it looks fantastic.

Excellent design, reliable and well built - the C220CDI is also quick, very economical, comfortable to be in, but also fun to drive (it adapts well to different road surfaces and types of road - twisty through to motorway).
