Auto Express's running costs ratings are based on our Driver Power survey of over 30,000 car owners. Ratings are the average for all owners of this car who responded. Individual owners’ ratings and comments appear below.
03-reg , Owner for 1 to 3 years

Build quality and ride are excellent, performance is good, although not as sharp as might be expected from 220bhp, while the overall mpg of 26 over 20,000 miles is acceptable. The cabin confers a nice feeling of security, but the rear visibility is appalling and access to the rear seats is relatively difficult. The seats are very poor and the rake adjustment knob is in a position that is difficult to reach. They habe virtually no support for thighs or lumbar - leather doesn't help. However, the worst aspect of the whole car is the steering, which is heavy, ponderous, provides no real feedback and has very little by way of self-centreing. A comparison with the equivalent BMW would be terminally embarrasing for Mercedes, although Mercedes ownership doesn't make the general public think that the driver is a twat. Why did I buy it then? Well, I like coupes and I guess I'm not the first person to have been seduced by 3 doors and a badge!

09-reg Diesel, Owner for Less than a year

I got this motor at a cheap lease cost in April 09. They must have had a glut of cars at the time as I would not be able to have the car now that prices have leveled.
The car looks brilliant!! Rides very well! Wished that I had gone for the C220 rather than the C200 CDI Sport. It needs more urgency. The A4 I had before could almost pull the tyres off and the Merc is supposed to have as many horses but I think they must have judged it with ponies!
Wished the front seats had leather and not plastic!
And finally............ Everybody thinks you have an extra tenner, and with another three pined to each point of the star!

Roll on 2011 and back to Audi I go!

03-reg Diesel, Owner for 1 to 3 years

The car is excellent as is my garage from which I bought it. What is SUPERB is Mercedes' service. When I left the lights on in Belgium Mercedes came in 15 minutes at 0745, charged the battery and charged EUR 10! Or was it EUR15? I can't remember but it was so cheap! When my Mercedes van broke down, again in Belgium, my driver did not have Euros to pay but Mercedes had it fixed by a local garage, did not ask for a payment in advance and invoiced me later from their UK office. I would like another VW but this service has persuaded me that I must always buy Mercedes.

09-reg Diesel, Owner for Less than a year

The most comfortable car I've owned for sometime. It's performance and economy are very surprising, I have been very impressed with the whole process of buying it from the Mercedes Main Dealer.
I am 6ft3 and as such space is a premium inside. The only problem with it is rear leg room, especially behind me, that said I have no complaints at all ( I don't sit in the back).

V-reg Diesel, Owner for More than 5 years

My car has a 2.5 ltr turbo charged diesel engine with an automatic gearbox which gives plenty of smooth power and remarkable acceleration when required. I take trouble to keep the vehicle well serviced, engine and body work, and see no reason why it should not last for a considerable time.

Cost: 5/5
52-reg Diesel, Owner for 3 to 5 years

The car is excellent in every way BUT Mercedes service and parts are so expensive that I no longer take it to a Mercedes dealer for anything. They quoted (from a Mercedes list) £1060 to supply and fit a towbar and trailer electrics. Elsewhere £300 incl bypass.

Cost: 5/5
51-reg Diesel, Owner for 1 to 3 years

Comfortable, reliable, safe and very economical.
It is a c220 cdi manual model giving 45 mpg plus.
Insurance is also as cheap as a nissan.
The only thing I would change is the foot operated parking brake which can be tricky to use with a manual gearbox.

Cost: 5/5
09-reg Petrol, Owner for Less than a year

On the whole pleased with the car. However the fuel comsumption is oiver 10% down on manufacturers figures. The Blue Efficiency model should return 47MPG on a run I( am lucky to obtain 34MPG. In Town this is down to 29! Mercedes DO NOT want to know!!!.

Cost: 2/5
09-reg Diesel, Owner for Less than a year

An outstanding car. I have the 320CDI Sport Estate and it goes like a sports car, takes a family and their luggage, handles brilliantly does about 40mpg and rides very well. It is everything I could want in a car. On top of that it looks fantastic.

Cost: 5/5
2012-reg Diesel, Owner for 1 to 3 years

Suffered coolant leak after 6 months, which was fixed under warranty. also suffers from a faulty alarm, I'm bored of merc dealership trying to fix it so lock it on the key instead of remote. Mpg is excellent, I regularly see over 60mpg combined.

Cost: 5/5
2008-reg Diesel, Owner for 3 to 5 years

Supurb. in all the years I have owned a mercedes they have never once let me down. I don't do much milage so I am happy with the fuael consumtion.the servicing is not cheap but it is usually done well, the car is returned in showroom condition.

Cost: 5/5
2011-reg Diesel, Owner for less than a year

It's been fine except that it once got stuck in gear and wouldn't change (it's an auto) until I switched off the engine & started it up again. a minor niggle really. I'd like it to be more efficient, but 620nm of torque aint ever cheap.

Cost: 3/5
57-reg Diesel, Owner for 1 to 3 years

Excellent design, reliable and well built - the C220CDI is also quick, very economical, comfortable to be in, but also fun to drive (it adapts well to different road surfaces and types of road - twisty through to motorway).

Cost: 5/5
2011-reg Diesel, Owner for less than a year

I feel totally confident this car will never let me down in any way. I have obtained upto 70mpg on a european journey, outstanding more than the book states. here at home I can easily achieve 65mpg on long motorway journey.

Cost: 5/5
1997-reg Petrol, Owner for 1 to 3 years

It's a mercedes when mercedes were built to last. mine's has 240,000 miles and no way it won't do 500,000 if looked after. For size of car great return on mpg. can source spares well on search engines.

Cost: 5/5
57-reg Diesel, Owner for 1 to 3 years

Very impressed, i had the old style model previoulsy (54 plate) the new model exceeded my expectations, I still believe the car is klacking in boot space but ths is much better than the older model

Cost: 5/5
2010-reg Diesel, Owner for 1 to 3 years

No problems experienced with car since purchase. Fat tyres, a big diesel engine and the marque don't exactly hint at economy, however apart from the tyres I can shop around for competitive prices.

Cost: 3/5
2012-reg Diesel, Owner for less than a year

So far the car has been exceptional with no problems. I have returned 72mpg on a 55 mile run, this is exceptional for a 2143cc engine and over the last 1000 miles returned an average of 57mpg.

Cost: 5/5
2008-reg Diesel, Owner for 1 to 3 years

No issues so far. Fuel economy is terrible and gets nowhere near the claimed figures. servicing costs aren't bad as we've got the car on a mercedes service plan which makes it affordable.

Cost: 2/5
2004-reg Diesel, Owner for more than 5 years

Have not had any major issues (always starts first time etc) but when something does go wrong it is very expensive to fix. Tyres are expensive and engine parts are very expensive.

Hey, it's a Mercedes, it took me years to afford and, frankly, I never want to drive anything else but my needs now are for a smaller car that is more friendly to the environment

I always wanted a Mercedes and they have met my expectations but for future cars I will probably buy a car that is somewhat greener and cheaper to run, relunctantly.

Cost: 3/5

Two similar electrical problems in the first month...both to do with the same equipment. Fuel consumption is not as advertised (40mpg as opposed to 55mpg promised).
