Awesome, the free reving 2.0 iVTEC in the Type R is great, the noise is epic. Giving it some beans always brings a smile to your face... even on a bad day.
Around town she is good, pulls well with low rpm and shifts smoothly. Clutch is light and easy to use, seats are a little hard on long (6h+) trips but this car was not built as a grand tourer.
Overall very happy with the Honda CTR, boot space is great... two people plus all out camping kit in the boot and back seats is just right. Features on the GT model make it a comfy ride in all conditions.
Using the performance takes its toll on the fuel figures, but you dont buy a CTR to count the pennies!

A 1.3 with the perfomance of a 1.6 Fuel consumption depends how you drive it, drive it gently and get about +65mpg, drive it hard and I get about 42mpg. I have just had 1st service after 8 months of traveling through France, Belgium UK and Ireland and have averaged 48mpg. Very comfortable car for my long legs, with fairly low noise level. Split level dash works well. Boot space not bad for a saloon car could be better if the back seats folded down. Generaly I think it is nicer than the Insight. and I prefer it to my wifes B class Mercedes

56-reg Diesel, Owner for 3 to 5 years

Great looking design which still gets admiring remarks great three years on. Very practical and adaptable interior but quite claustrophobic and plastics can mark easily and aren't of the highest quality with too many squeaks and rattles. The engine's combination of performance and economy is outstanding and is coupled with a slick-shifting box, but the handling is a disappointing combination of harsh ride quality and sloppy cornering. I've been really pleased with the dealers and their excellent service with reasonable costs.

56-reg Diesel, Owner for 1 to 3 years

Still love the looks but car is let down by poorer than expected fuel economy, poor ride quality, not as expected build quality and niggling practical issues. ad reflections onto windscreen at night, lack of rear visibility and vision being obstructed by wide A pillar and unswept windcsreen are most obvious.
The car can only be rated ok as the radical looks are let down by the mediocre driving experience, too much body roll on 16" wheels despite rock hard suspension- how did they manage it?
Could do better.

08-reg Hybrid/Alt, Owner for 1 to 3 years

Underpowered and does not reach the fuel consumption targets claimed by the manufacturer. Limited boot space and seats do not fold flat making the car less versatile than normal saloons. The car sits very low so it is possible to "ground" on the front when exiting driveways. On hills it gets noisy as the engine has to work very hard to maintain speed. Overall a well put together car that is let down by its lack of power - better off getting a mid size turbo diesel car.

07-reg Petrol, Owner for 1 to 3 years

Its a good looking small family car, but economy is not as good as I thought it would be. Its comfortable over long distances, 600 miles in 12 hours, and the rear spoiler I LOVE, as it blocks following cars headlights, I can't see why people complain about it. The dealers are the best around and give excellent customer service. My car is 34 months old and has 114,000 miles on the clock and is still going strong. I-shift gearbox ok but takes some getting used to.

Civic Type R. Harsh ride but great handling a performance make up for it. Petrol is not the cheapest but only had to replace the front tyres after 34k so relatively cheap to run. Would buy another but might wait ti see if a facelift model comes out. A few warranty repairs which surprised me from a Honda. Especially when the car goes in they then diagnose the fault but don't have the parts in stock resulting in a second trip to the dealers.

R-reg Petrol, Owner for 1 to 3 years

For age and mileage this low range 1997 civic is very nippy for a 1.4. the only faults with the car at mot time was rear suspension bushes and fuel emissions (lambda sensor) which were fairly straightforward to repair. it's comfortable and all in one piece. quite a bit of road and air noise starting to be noticeable around the door/window seals. Battery would not re-charge after accidental discharge (my fault) and had to be replaced.

06-reg Petrol, Owner for 3 to 5 years

My Honda Civic does what I expect it to, without setting the world alight. It looks good, performs well, is practical and is generally reliable. The only issues were noisy suspension that I reported at the last service. This turned out to be a bent shock absorber at the rear and worn bump stops at the front. Despite the car being out of warranty, Honda sanctioned their replacement free of charge.

Big thumbs up to Honda!!

I'm a Honda fan and have had a number over the years. That said, I have been very impresssed by the Civic which is surprisingly quick and nimble. It's also much more pratcivcal than its body shape suggests. it's very stylish, in my eyes, although I know that its shape is not universally liked.

I also drive a Jazz for commuting to work purposes but would have no hesitation in driving another Civic to replace it.

Model is a FN2 civic type R. The car has been fantastic - I have a strong preference for Japanese manufacturers due to the build quality and performance in comparison to competing manufacturers. The Type R is an incredibly comfortable and practical car, with great performance - i'd recommend it to anyone, in fact, a friend has since bought this car based on my experience.

58-reg Diesel, Owner for Less than a year

Good car spoilt by lack of rear vision, no rear wiper, poor radio, poor instrument vision ( can't see certain warning lights), harsh ride, expensive servicing, noisy road noise, noisy engine, heavy cluch action, notchy gearchange, poor side vision due to Windscreen uprights, strange rattles and squeaks from dashboard, excellent looks but wont buy another.

58-reg Petrol, Owner for Less than a year

Good looking car with sporty looks. Very comfiortable, good performance. Incredibly poor rear visibility, due to the non existent rear wiper and spoiler across the middle of the rear winow, spoil the overall pleasure of owning the car. Terribly hard ride too! Honda really need to improve the rear visibilty and ride before I would purchase another Civic.

Good car to drive, well put together apart from two niggling faults. Noisy rear suspension when first driving off after being parked. System check light illuminating intermittently for a couple of seconds on initial start up. Returned to main dealers (3 times) Honda say nothing wrong!

07-reg Diesel, Owner for 1 to 3 years

Good car with light and easy to use controls. But spoilt by terrible ride quality, paintwork that chips so easily, poor windsceen wipers and poor dipped headlights. Build quality is also poor with too many rattles that have had to be cured using adhesive tape!

Comfort: 4/5 Practicality: 4/5 Ride Quality: 1/5 Ease of driving: 4/5
04-reg Petrol, Owner for 3 to 5 years

A good blend of performance, economy and practicality. Lacking some features and creature comforts. Reliable but the electrical power steering is a weak point. Ride is unforgiving and seat / steering wheel position could be better. Handling is impressive.

Comfort: 3/5 Practicality: 5/5 Ride Quality: 2/5 Ease of driving: 3/5
07-reg Diesel, Owner for 1 to 3 years

For practicality and versatility the Civic is way out in front of its rivals. It maybe a little hard on the ride but you get used to that, as you do to the rear view. The only thing I would change would be the Handsfree interface with the mobile phone.

The top of the range 2000 Civic auto with leather upholstery is as good as any small family car and it is far better than the cheaper models in the range. It rides as well as our Rover 75 which proves this fact. Honda service has been impeccable.

We also currently own the Civic type R which has proved both reliable and practical therefore with the additional features that the EX has, it seamed like the sensible option, as it has more usable space than my previous Car which was the Saab 93

The Civic is a very practical car. Clever Seats make it versatile. Not many other cars have rear seats that fold flat. Boot is spacious and I love the Dashboard, something really different from the usual. Well done Honda for being so brave.

Having driven mostly Golfs from a Mark 2 - 5, the Civic is a better car in most respects. However the Civic is let down my cabin creaks and groans, the paint quality (too thin) and the finish on the alloy wheels pit too easily.

Fantastic design, reliability and use-ability, still looks great after 3 years, but the ride quality badly lets it down, with very harsh rear suspension not being able to cope with the poor quality british roads.
