The Fiesta S1600 has stepped up a gear! Ford offered the S1600 special as a limited run of 650 cars some time ago. These were based on the Fiesta Zetec S, but as our review showed
, were more style over substance.
Still, Ford sold all of the examples it made, and now the S1600 is back, but with a boost in power to match the beefed-up looks.
Just 500 examples will be made this time, once again based on the Zetec S. Power of the 1.6-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine is up from 118bhp to 132bhp, which helps drop the 0-62mph to 8.2 seconds – a 1.7 second improvement over the standard model.
Once again, the Fiesta S1600 features a body styling kit that includes a deeper front bumper, extended side skirts, rear spoiler and diffuser; and 17-inch white alloys. Two colours are available - Frozen White or Performance Blue - with contrasting motorsport stripes.
Interior tweaks include heated leather sports seats, a leather steering wheel, handbrake cover and gear-knob, plus motorsport-branded floor mats and scuff plates.
The Fiesta S1600 is available now, priced at £15,895 - £1,500 more than the standard Zetec S and a useful £650 cheaper than the previous S1600 special. This should be enough to tide fast Ford fans over until the turbocharged 1.6-litre Fiesta ST arrives in 2012.
