It's the hot hatch that everyone has been waiting for – this is the new Fiesta ST, and it's looking meaner than ever.
Spied testing at the Nurburgring circuit in Germany, these latest shots show the racy hatch gets the same dramatic grille as its bigger brother, the Focus ST. And that distinctive air intake gives the Fiesta some real visual aggression.
Take a look below the number plate and it's also clear to see an intercooler, indicating this model is turbocharged. Although there are no official details, it's expected that the Fiesta ST will pack a 1.6-litre direct injection turbocharged EcoBoost four-cylinder engine.
With rivals such as Vauxhall's Corsa VXR and the RenaultSport Clio 200 all producing in the region of 200bhp, expect the Fiesta to do the same. That will be enough punch for a 0-60mph time of around six seconds and a top speed of 140mph.
According to our spies this prototype is being used to test the engine and its cooling systems with the new ST 'nose' – hence the reason for the track-required roll cage and the fact that the rear diffuser is different to a previous ST model we photographed.
The finished car is likely to receive a diffuser with exhaust pipes on either side, plus a bodykit with pumped up wheelarches and a larger roof spoiler. The chassis will get lowered and stiffened suspension along with wider tracks front and rear. Upgraded brakes and Recaro seats will also feature.
The Fiesta ST will debut in 2012, whlle the Focus ST will arrive later this year.

an angry fish
You can see between the mesh white coloured bodywork. The grille is just to fool bystanders. I imagine the car to look very much look the current fiesta but with a more agressive front splitter.
Half of the top grill honeycomb is blanked off if you look closely, so why does it need to be so big. I really dont like these massive grills that Ford now seem to use on all its ST/RS products.
I really hope that is not the final front end. I have been looking forwards to this car for a couple of years, great looks (for the current Zetec-S), one of the best chassis around and it is finally getting the power it deserves only to be turned into a gaping mouthed ugly duckling. Ford keep it as it is and don't deface a work of art, don't force me back to the Mini dealership
The fiesta is the best in its class, and i've been looking forwatrd to the ST for a long time, i just hope it doesn't finish off with a front like that!!
"The car that everyone has been waiting for".... really?? Its a ford and its a fiesta, i cant think of anything more boring, apart from a vw golf maybe.
mauk1980, i think you have to take in the correct context, obviously there are more complete and expensive cars that people are waiting for.............
My God! What a mess!
I've no doubt that when they facelift the Fiesta, they'll make the same dog's dinner that they made of the Focus.
Whtever happens, the motoring press will love it....
given that ford can charge over £16k for a gutless Fiesta i dread to think what they will want for this ST version £18k maybe?
Sorry i missquoted "the hot hatch everyone has been waiting for". Give me an ibiza cupra, mitsi colt turbo, abarth punto esseesse any day...... cars much more worthy and not sponsored by the motoring press
bah! these cars have no history (except the abarth maybe), no one buys theme when they come out, where are they in the sales stat. on the whole euro market ?? the focus's (ST,RS), golf's (GTI,R) and opel's (OPC) are the ones which are mega selling and awaited by fans each time a new one is around!!
How has the ford got no history? The original Fiesta mk1 XR2 was born in 1981 and has started a revolution of hot hatches. This has to be one of the most exciting small cars in many years.

that's exactly my point! Sport-vesions from Ford, VW, Opel have glory histories (also when it comes to selling), which f.x. seat's, mitsi's have NOT....
Must be in a disguise..
i would rather they kept the mk6 styling (as it looks a lot more aggressive) and dumped this little turbo in the engine bay! i expect huge dissapointment. and i would still rather have a Clio RS over any oter hot hatch , its a pure breed sportscar
