Volkswagen will unveil the Beetle Cabriolet for the first time at the Los Angeles Motor Show in November, before it goes on sale in the UK during the middle of 2013.
The Beetle Cabriolet was previewed by the E-Bugster concept, but while that car was battery-powered and featured pumped-up wheelarches, expect the production version to look more like the standard Beetle.
Like the hatch, the Beetle will be offered in retro colours and feature options like coloured dashboard inserts to match the Beetle’s style-driven image.
The Cabriolet will be available with the same engine line-up as the hatch, which starts with the 1.2-litre TSI engine with 104bhp and features a 158bhp 1.4-litre TSI. A more potent 197bhp 2.0-litre turbo will power the performance flagship and the solely diesel offering will be a 138bhp 2.0-litre TDI.
VW is also planning a Speedster version more closely related to the E-Bugster concept, set to arrive by 2014.
The VW Beetle Cabriolet will be on sale in 2013, priced from around £18,000.
