Purchased car at approx 25,000 miles. history as follows:1. 32000 miles - replace exhaust pressure sensor (free).2. 39000 miles - engine/coil light on dash - ecu update (free)3. 47000 miles - engine/coil light on dash - new throttle valve (ł208)4. 52758 miles - engine management light back on - new egr valve, cooler and pipe (ł546)5. 53122 miles - warning light again - new temperature sensor? - particulate filter would not regenerate ( done free!). Actual servicing costs not too bad:interim service (ł259) inc fluids, wiper blades etc.major service (ł359) inc fluids, filters, wiper blades etc. cambelt and water pump replacement (ł439) was a bit steep. water pump replacement was recommended, not essential!?.

Has never let me down, but I have had a few problems with engine management issues. this has meant driving with worrying amber lights on, often for considerable distances before the dealer could check. Fuel economy generally good, when I bought the car I lived in the countryside and was getting 46mpg. vw service plan good value. a few repairs needed and frequency of scheduled cambelt changes is annoying.

No issues with electrical, mechanical, interior or exterior fit of parts. None to mention other than the ever increasing cost of fuel, insurance premiums and road tax which this government is hell bent raising revenue from the poor old motorist in an attempt to balance the books.

The best car I have ever driven. - Mine has the auto box which is superb and every other extra that was available. We tow a caravan which it does easier than my previous car ( an Audi Allroad 2.5 Deisel) and returns circa 30 mpg with the van on the back.

I turn the key, it starts, I drive off! On balance, given the quality of the car, running costs are reasonable. example: longlife variable service (main dealer), inc all the bits, ł235.00. cambelt/water pump replacement ł439.00.

No problems with reliability at all. Onboard computer reads 20% high for mpg and vw say that this is ok but I think it is very bad and done delibrately.
