These McLaren P13 pictures, although taken from afar, show our first glimpse of the manufacturer's new baby supercar. Aimed squarely at top-end Porsche 911s, such as the £118,000 Turbo, it’s scheduled for a late 2014 launch with sales starting early in 2015.
Although our spy shots were taken from a distance and the car is well-disguised, you can clearly see a sharper front end and headlight design inspired from the P1, which tallies with our latest inside information. The profile of the car is also different from the 12C, with new air intake on the flanks, while the pop-up spoiler appears to have been carried over.
The P13 will be the third model in the current McLaren line-up, sitting below the £866,000 P1 hypercar and the 12C supercar. It’s expected to use a detuned version of the 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 engine found in the 12C, with power in the region of 450bhp.
It will share the same carbon fibre monocoque as its bigger brothers but have a slightly shorter wheelbase and narrower tracks than the 12C, giving it a more compact appearance and a lower kerbweight than the 1,434kg 12C.
