Mercedes CLA 45 AMG Shooting Brake seen for the first time, expect four-wheel drive and 355bhp

An estate version of the Mercedes CLA 45 AMG could be just around the corner, if these images are anything to go by. The latest member of the expanding AMG family has been spotted by our spies, with a camouflaged rear section.

Based on the same platform as the latest A- and B-Class models, the CLA Shooting Brake will be powered by the 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine found in the CLA 45 AMG, which delivers 355bhp and 450Nm of torque. Power is transferred via AMG’s seven-speed DCT automatic and an all-wheel drive system carried over from the saloon.

As you can see, the estate model will also feature the CLA 45 AMG’s distinctive front fascia, including sweptback headlights, chunky front bumper and gaping air intakes. The rear bumper and quad exhausts are unchanged, too.

The Shooting Brake’s increased bulk should see its cover 0-62mph slightly slower than the 4.6 seconds managed by the coupe version – but expect it to still take less than 5.0 seconds before topping out at a limited 155mph.

Expect the full CLA Shooting Brake range, which will include the same range of four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines as the CLA saloon, to arrive in early 2015. The CLA 45 AMG Shooting Brake is expected to cost around £45,000.
