Called the A-BAT, it’s a compact pick-up with power from the same hybrid drivetrain found in the Prius. It’s been designed to appeal to buyers who want an environmentally friendly SUV with off-road ability and rugged looks.
Inside is a host of clever gadgets aimed at making the A-BAT as practical and eco-conscious as possible. There are solar panels mounted in the top of the dash which convert the sun’s energy to power the sat-nav and instruments, plus wi-fi Internet access and a music hard drive. Both the driver and front passenger have large display screens for audio and ventilation settings.
There’s only room for four, but the A-BAT has a variety of seating arrangements and plenty of storage. The rear seats fold to allow long loads to extend into the cabin from the boot, while the cushions retract to increase flexibility. A removable storage tray beneath the back seat offers tie downs and organising compartments to secure loose cargo.
