Porsche’s all-new 911 is gearing up for it’s Frankfurt Motor Show debut in September! These are the best pictures yet of the next generation coupe and convertible models – known internally as 998.

As we’ve come to expect from new 911s, this latest car’s transmformation isn’t exactly dramatic. The familiar silhouette is present and accounted for but now in a longer and wider form.

Look a little closer and you’ll notice larger front pontoons with more upright, all LED headlights mounted at the head. At the rear, a stylish 918 Spyder-inspired design hides underneath the stickers on this mule. The side mirrors have also been moved to door, rather than the wing.

On the inside, the 911’s ageing interior gets a luxurious re-fresh with a Panamera-style centre console and quality leather trim all set to feature.

But just like previous 911s, it’s what’s underneath that counts. The new 911 shares its front suspension and steering with the next Boxster, to cut costs. However, the rear suspension, and calibrations for the PASM adjustable dampers remains unique.

The engine range follows the current cars, with the 3.6-litre flat-six Carrera model’s power and torque rising 20bhp and 20Nm respectively, to 365bhp and 400Nm. The 3.8-litre unit in the Carrera S boasts the same gains, taking power to 415bhp and torque to 440Nm.

Despite the power increase, tweaks to the direct injection system and the addition of brake regeneration and stop/start reduce fuel consumption by 12 per cent.

A six-speed manual gearbox will be standard, and the seven-speed PDK will be an option. Most buyers are likely to opt for the auto though, as around 80 per cent of current 911’s feature the PDK dual clutch gearbox.

I know you mention later on that the change isn't dramatic, but can you seriously, with a straight face, open the article with "All new Porsche 911..." . If Lambo and Ferrari can keep there identity whilst actually designing fresh new cars, why the hell can't Porsche?

Yawn

Isn't it time Porsche did something rather than taking us for a ride, the joke must surely be over.....?
BORING

Ken

I totally agree with the last two comments...Porsche is incapable or just frightened to produce the 911 with a really new look. The article struggles to point out differences but they are insigignificant to the look of old. As for, "whats really important is under the hood"...come on...Porsche is milking this "significant horsepower increase" to death...increasing 10-20 hp for each years model is a joke...I have a I4 turbo, 2.0 L engine in a EVO 10 and get over 400hp at the crank with simple add ons, CAI, CBE and a tune, thats it. Porsche has I6 turbo engine and they are offering 415 hp...this is a joke!

Durrrrrrr

They make a fortune, they don't need to.....

Share-holders count, if they're happy because enough people buy the cars then it's a successful business.....

Get with the program....

Porsche & AE should call it yet another 911 evolution! Because all-new, it definately isn't!

Iconic

Its a beautifull bubble teardrop car.....
And they hold value more than any other car....
So why change it???
In fact the design has improved since the 60's....
Look at the subtle improvements with each design...
The new one is a good evolution...
If only Lamborghini or ferrari had stuck with , and evolved the Countach and 512 bb .......
At least Porsche have icon loyalty points !!!!
Good job Porsche!!!!!
I will never own one but they look cool!!!!

If only Ferrari and Lamborghini had stuck with the basic theme..

Then horrors like the Diablo roadster and the Enzo eye wound design would never have abused centrfolds in car magazines!!!
Has Chanel changed its ethos???
Has Calvin Klien changed CK1???
So why should Porsche destroy its brand!!!!
Whenever big brands screw up the past the new car only tries to fill its shoes..
Classics like the Jaguar Xj 220 need a modern interpretation , not a fresh piece of paper!!!
Look at the bugatti Eb110 , beautifull...
Unlike the gruesome Veyron....
Nasty!!!!!

People have requested Porsche make a new car...

They made the Cayenne...
Like chewing horrible pepper.....
They made the ugly bum boxter....
ooops........
At least the 911 is ridiculously simple and nice...
Like an expensive swatch watch!!!!!
Please cancel the Cayenne , Panamera and Boxster....
Just make 911's!!!!!
