The A4 has proved a big hit with buyers over the years, but it seems not every owner is a satisfied customer.

While build quality is rated highly – 23rd is a good result – reliability is below par, running costs are on the high side, and practicality gets a thumbs-down.

Seventh for build is impressive for a car that first appeared nine years ago, while 38th for performance is proof the engines still have the wow factor.

However, practicality isn’t up to scratch, while the cost of ownership doesn’t tally with the low used prices.
