Vauxhall is preparing to take its share of the hot-hatch spotlight. This 300bhp Astra VXR has been spied almost completely undisguised.

The newcomer is expected to be able to accelerate from 0-62mph in under six seconds and will then continue onwards to reach speeds of over 150mph.

As you can see from these pictures, the VXR adopts an aggressive look to match its impressive 300bhp power output –  a huge increase from the previous Astra XVR’s 237bhp. Power is delivered through the front wheels and a limited slip-diff is expected to be fitted as standard.

The VXR is based on the three-door GTC model but gets larger alloy wheels, a rear spoiler and more muscular bodykit. There’s also a set of huge cross-drilled Brembo brakes for immense stopping power.

Prices are expected to begin at around £25,000 when the Astra VXR is released onto UK roads at the beginning of 2012.

Not Bad

Figures suggesting on this car is really good as it will have a much power as a Ford Focus RS.
Really nice design as well.
The only thing that gets me about Vauxhalls/Opels is that how they make the interior. The plastics are not great. It feels average. I just hope with this car they are able to improve on this subject.
"The newcomer is expected to be able to accelerate from 0-62mph in under six seconds and will then continue onwards to reach speeds of over 150mph" - Yes thats really good. But, how will this car handle is the main question as it has always been the downfall of any Vauxhall/Opel?

Spotted on its way to buy tyres.....

As a lifelong Ford fan, impressed with the exterior stylings of Vauxhalls of late. Well done.

But 300hp in a fwd car is just another pointless marketing gimmick.

Modders have been getting 300 from of fwd hatchbacks since the 80s and always come up with the same problem - the steering wheels don't work as well when they are expected to push as well.

if they made it awd (or more fun still RWD) - they would be making a serious car for grown ups.

My new X3 35D M Sport is 0-62 in 5.8seconds, for a VXR it really should be able to beat it!!, but it won't.

X3

No offence John but I'd rather have the Astra any day (besides your hardly comparing like with like here). The X3 is dull, too common, and my mates 3.0d feels nervous on corners at speed..... Sorry, just my personal opinion.

The only thing that will go faster is the cars value. A shame it's the other way.

X3... Ha Ha Ha!

john550i...

But everyone will be laughing at you going forwards into a hedge at the first corner!

Nobody will be particularly envious of your tank with an identity crisis either...

How much did they coin you for again?

A Vauxhall, really?

This looks pretty damn fantastic. Vauxhall/Opel seem to be on the right styling path at the moment.

Striking new Design??

Although this car does look very nice, I noticed almost straight away how similar a few areas of the car are to the Megane coupe which I own, particularly the back windows and C pillar area. Even the small back window, spoiler and boot-lid shape have similarities.... Not such a new design after all
