Porsche has unveiled the new 911 Cabriolet at the 2012 Detroit Motor Show. It will go on sale in the UK this March priced from £79,947 for the Carrera and £89,740 for the Carrera S model.

The new 991-generation Cabriolet is 60kg lighter and 18 per cent stiffer than the model it replaces. The roof has been sculpted to be the same shape as the coupe's, and the more aerodynamic design helps economy and reduces wind noise. The glass rear window is glued directly to the outer skin of the canvas top, which is a new production technique which Porsche has patented.

At the press of a button the roof rises or lowers in just 11 seconds, and can even be operated at speeds of up to 37mph. There’s no messing around with a fiddly wind deflector like on the old car, as the new 911 Cabriolet gets an automatic one which pops up in just two seconds.
