Sensational spy shot shows production ready version of three-door Astra.

Our spied snapped the forthcoming Astra VXR testing last week – and now we have our first look at the GTC on which it will be based.

Discovered on Opel’s official Facebook page, this image is the first we have seen of the undisguised production version of the 3-door Astra. Vauxhall first hinted at what to expect from the VXR model with the Astra GTC concept at the 2010 Paris motor show, but without the concept car touches and hot-hatch add-ons, the GTC appears rather less dramatic.

While the picture only shows the rear of the car, we can see that the bodywork and mirrors have been carried across almost unchanged for production – but the lights, wheels and bumpers have all been toned down.

The Astra GTC will feature the same range of petrol and diesel engines as in the 5-door hatch, while under the VXR’s bonnet there will be a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol powerplant pushing out close to 300bhp. This will ensure Ford Focus RS-rivalling performance, and leaves space underneath for a possible warm hatch with similar figures to today’s VXR-badged Astra.

i would say thats not the GTC or the VXR but rather an SE or similar level vehicle going from the alloys compared to the current model.

On stilts?

Is this definitely the GTC? It looks like its on stilts.... way too high for a sporty model.

Astra GTC or is it the new Merc A Class?

Strange how all these cars are beginning to look remarkably similar. Styling cues make the new Focus, the present Leon and the Astra look like they've been designed by the same people. The drawings of the new A Class look like someone's photo-shopped Audi's A1 and this GTC to arrive at a "new" model. Unless, of course, they've all got to look similar so that the Daytime Running Lights look right.

Wow

Thats exciting, in the same way a trip to the supermarket is, there is no way this is the VXR version, look at the placing of the exhaust for a start, the tyres are too narrow and the roof/boot spoiler is too small.

GTC = Sport Hatch

GTC is the Opel name for the Vauxhall Astra Sport Hatch so this is the GTC as it's the 3dr Astra.

As SubBorn says, it is obviously NOT the VXR model but indeed looks more like the SE (Design as was) model. Expect VXR (and SRi) models to look more aggressive.

As usual, need to see it in the metal rather than someone's grainy phone camera.
