The BMW has pop-out cup-holders mounted in the dashboard, but the mechanism is flimsy. Also disappointing are the heating controls. Made from low-quality plastics, they look cheap and don’t feel very satisfying to use

These quibbles aside, the 525d is superbly built. The doors provide great noise insulation, and shut with a reassuring thunk
