Think big is beautiful? You’re in luck! With the financial crisis forcing many drivers to downsize, there are now loads of spacious people carriers on the market for less than £5,000 – meaning real bargains can be picked up.

With highly efficient turbodiesel engines under the bonnet, they won’t drain your wallet, plus most are car-like to drive and come with luxuries such as air-conditioning.

Be careful when buying, though. Check the V5 document to ensure you don’t get an ex-airport taxi, and always make sure the cabin is in good condition. Here we’ve picked three of the best buys...
