The Kia Cee’d GT – the Korean manufacturer’s first hot hatch – has been unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show.
Based on the five-door Cee’d, the GT produces 201bhp from its 1.6-litre turbocharged engine. It’ll do 0-62mph in 7.9 seconds and cost around £23,000 when it goes on sale later this year.
Competition in the hot hatch niche is stronger than ever, and with a brand-new VW Golf GTI on the horizon, Kia needs its initial effort to make a big impact. It follows a proven formula of front-wheel drive and a manual gearbox, and is loaded with kit, too.
With the brand’s comprehensive seven-year warranty, the Kia Cee’d GT is sure to win over the cost-concious buyer, but will it prove a true rival to the Ford Focus ST?
