If superheroes and movie stars could only afford cheap cars

What would Batman drive if he was skint? How could the Dukes of Hazzard replace the General Lee on a tight budget? These pics reveal all…

By:Auto Express team
6 Apr 2014

Imagine a world where Batman sped around Gotham City in a Citroen 2CV or where Knight Rider could only afford a VW Beetle.

Designer Gerald Bear has done the hard work for us and created the cars our favourite superheroes and movie stars would drive if they operated under real world financial constraints.

This is how austerity action stars and skint superheroes might get from A to B...

  • Citroen 2CV batmobile

Batman’s enemies would be in stitches if they saw the Caped Crusader trailing around Gotham in this old Citroen.

  • Fiat Panda - Starsky and Hutch

The Fiat Panda’s tiny two-cylinder engine lacks the muscle of the Ford Torino’s powerful V8.

  • Renault 4 - Dukes of Hazzard

Renault stopped production of the Renault 4 due to safety legislations, which means driving the car would be a hazard in itself.

  • Volkswagen Beetle - Knight Rider

More Herbie the Love Bug than KITT the artificially intelligent car, there’d be a very different audience for Knight Rider if David Hasselhoff drove around in a Volkswagen Beetle.

  • Fiat 500 - back to the future

Could Marty McFly and Doc Brown even reach 88mph in the Fiat Cinquecento? Probably not.

  • Lancia Y10 - Interceptor

Crime would probably be at an all-time high if lawmen were driving around in the pedestrian Lancia Y10.

  • BMW Isetta - Mach 5

This small bubble-shaped three-wheeler from BMW would struggle to reach mach one, never mind Mach Five.

  • Honda Cn250 - Tron

The outdated Honda CN250 scooter may look out of place in Tron’s futuristic setting.

  • Piaggio Vespa - Akira

Swap super quick motorbikes for slow little Vespas and biker gangs in Tokyo suddenly seem a lot less threatening.

  • Waca YMF 5C - Wonder Woman

It’s probably better on everyone’s eyes that this rusty plane is invisible.

  • Piaggio Ape - Transformers

Megatron might not be so mega if he transformed into this three-wheeled pick-up.

  • The Death Proof stunt car in the Grindhouse film series looks awesome, but we have no doubt Tarantino would make this chunky Mercedes station wagon look cool too.

  • Snow Sled - Rush

Niki Lauda’s Formula One career would have probably ended earlier if he traded in the horsepower of his Ferrari 312T for a husky driven sled.
