<span>The rear end of the X5 looks a little bland, but the squared-off exterior styling has at least led to an increase in interior space.</span>
The X5 derivatives are offered in either SE or M Sport trim levels, while an X5 M comes only <span>with a 567bhp 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 and a bodykit.</span>

<span>While roll is well controlled on the BMW X5, the ride is too firm in the sportier settings. 'Comfort' is the mode of choice, but even then the X5 never feels settled.</span>
<span>The latest version of BMW's iDrive cabin control system is matched to a superb 10.2-inch screen installed in the X5's cabin.</span>

<span>The Active Security package available on the X5 includes lane departure warning, rear collision alerts and a blind-spot monitor. All of these can be switched on or off at the touch of a button.</span>
<span>Interior quality has also taken a step forward in the X5, with plenty of nice leather, metal and plastic used throughout.</span>
