Generation game

This was a twin test with a difference, as one of the cars involved was 33 years old. When the latest MkVI Golf GTI was introduced, we lined it up against a 1976 MkI, which VW brought to the launch from Germany. Road testers James Disdale and Owen Mildenhall beat hordes of other eager journalists from rival magazines to nab the keys for a trip down memory lane – and the old-timer impressed them with its poise and balance.
