Hard-top or soft-top – that’s the question for cabrio designers. Mercedes started the folding metal roof craze with its SLK, and BMW’s all-new Z4 followed suit. Could either outperform the Porsche Boxster, with its fabric hood, for drop-top honours? We headed to the North Yorkshire Moors – and found that Porsche
is ruthless when it goes roofless. Its class-leading dynamics outweighed the benefits of the Z4 and SLK’s metal lids.
