Toyota Prius
Owner verdict (Driver Power 2010): While the Prius is green, there’s more to real-world motoring than eco-friendliness – which explains why this hybrid sits at 25 despite being cheap to run, easy to drive and incredibly reliable. Snail-like performance and stodgy handling we expected, but poor comfort is disappointing. It seems saving the world still carries a few penalties.

Toyota Prius
Think of an ideal car for zipping around a traffic-packed city centre, and the Toyota Prius probably wouldn't be top of your list. But that's the role the hybrid has taken on over the past few months, as I've used it to travel from where I live close to Highbury in London (home of the all-conquering Arsenal FC) to Auto Express's West End HQ.
