But on paper, the ingredients for this new, hot 208 are positive. It gets 197bhp from a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine. Matched to a six-speed manual gearbox, the GTi sprints from 0-62mph in less than seven seconds.
Add that to a wider track, plus tuned suspension and steering components, and the 208 GTi looks destined to succeed.
The car will arrive early next year with a price tag of around £18,000 – putting it within reach of the capable Renaultsport Clio 200.
