
There’s not much wrong with the standard suspension, but we would recommend the optional £1,150 Magnetic Ride dampers. They deliver superior ride comfort, and also have a sharper Sport mode.

Although we love the design and quality of the TT’s cockpit, the heating controls are hard to reach, and because of a lacquered finish, the metal switchgear actually feels more like plastic.

Apparently Audi boss Martin Winterkorn is a keen skier, so he demanded that the TT came with a throughload facility. You have to pay an extra £95 if you want the personalised ski bag, though.

The last TT had a pop-up glass wind deflector, which was more attractive, effective and easier to see through than the new car’s mesh panel. Apparently it keeps the weight down, but we think it’s a backwards step.

In the old car you had to undo a central latch before lowering the roof. But here the mechanism is entirely hands-free – all you have to do is press a button. Better still, the roof can be operated at up to 19mph.
