Ayrton Senna Google Doodle tribute

UK misses out as Google logo remembers Ayrton Senna

Ayrton Senna Google Doodle

Ayrton Senna’s birthday is being recognised by Google today, with a special stylised version of the company’s logo featuring on its website homepage.

The March 21 ‘Doodle’ includes an illustration of Senna in profile, with a chequered flag design above and a racing Formula One car below – all infused with the green and yellow of the Brazilian’s home country.

The three-time F1 world champion, who would have turned 54 today, was killed in an accident while leading the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix at Imola. May 1 will mark the 20th anniversary of his death.

Widely considered one of the greatest drivers of all time, Senna’s birthday has since been recognised by Google sites worldwide, appearing on its homepage as far afield as Canada, Puerto Rico and of course Brazil.

Surprisingly though, given the UK’s strong F1 connections, our Google ‘Doodle’ doesn't feature Senna, having reverted to the standard logo following yesterday’s celebration of the spring equinox.
