Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 review

The Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 performed well in numerous areas, especially dry handling

There’s little to choose between former test winners Goodyear and Continental, with the former delivering a slightly more balanced performance. Last time out the Asymmetric 5 was a top-three finisher in our SUV test, despite a poor fuel economy result that was surprising for what was then a new tyre.

That high rolling resistance was still there two years later, with the Goodyear only outperforming Michelin. It was much more assured elsewhere and shared a sharpness behind the wheel with Continental. It was the best around the dry-handling course, combining precise steering with good front grip on the throttle and a great lap time.

It was also close to the best in braking, around a metre off the winner. That same lively steering was there in the wet, too, where it was matched by a strong rear that allowed speed to be carried into corners without sliding. It was also good through the turns, with grip lasting longer than most rivals when the throttle was applied, before pushing wide or spinning up. While its closest rivals struggled in the deep-water aquaplaning tests, the Asymmetric 5 was on the pace in a straight line and took the curved win.

We say...

A balanced performance in the wet and dry from a tyre that’s good to drive, although this comes at the expense of fuel economy.

Blackcircles.com says…

"With an overall customer rating of 4.6/5 from more than 1,500 reviews, this tyre is another that has impressed, with secure grip, plus wet and dry performance is often praised."
