Ego Electric Street Scoota

Electric scoot’s a real town flier. Offered in choice of colours, it provides a 30-40 mile range.

Take the stress and expense out of town centre commuting with this new electric scooter from Ego.

The Electric Street Scoota has proved a big hit in its Chinese home market. A full charge via the mains takes about eight hours, giving a 30-40-mile range. Or you can plug in for three hours for a small boost.

The 1,400-watt motor can propel the scooter at around 30mph, while there’s a built-in steering lock for security. A small area under the seat gives reasonable storage, while a top box is standard.

Even though there is no engine, owners should do regular maintenance checks. And once it’s three years old, the scooter will still require an annual MoT.

Unless you passed your driving test before February 2001, you will need to complete a CBT (for around £80) to ride the Street Scoota. But this, and the £1,000 price tag, looks a good investment given that you can park for free, avoid paying congestion charges and beat the traffic on your way to work.
