BMW i8 gets exclusive new 'Protonic Red' edition

BMW announces a limited-run Protonic Red version of the i8 supercar, with styling revisions inside and out

BMW i8 Protonic

BMW's innovative i8 is already a pretty special car, but it's about to get a little bit more exclusive thanks to a new Protonic Red limited edition. The hybrid supercar gets a two-tone red and grey finish and a subtly red-themed interior.

On sale in September but in strictly limited production numbers, the i8 Protonic Red costs from £112,535. That's a full £8,995 more than the standard BMW i8 but the car will have a bit more caché with those in the know.

The unique red paint finish combines with metallic grey detailing all-round, while uprated alloy wheels and a black front grille are also thrown into the mix. Inside, you'll find carbon-fibre and ceramic trim not found on standard i8s, and red stitching on the leather.

The i8 Protonic Red is (as you'd expect) unchanged mechanically, so it manages a 0-62mph time of 4.4 seconds yet emits just 49g/km and claims 134.5mpg combined.
