Eco SUVs

Land Rover Freelander TD4_e, Volkswagen Tiguan, Volvo XC60 (Issue 1,079)

auto express

You can’t move for green brands or eco-friendly models right now, so the chance to test three of the cleanest SUVs around wasn’t one to be missed. Would our long-term VW Tiguan be able to match the new stop/start Freelander – and an XC60 wearing Volvo’s recently introduced DRIVe badging?

The answer was a resounding yes. The Freelander proved too polluting, while the Volvo was hampered by its lack of all-wheel drive – so if you need a compact SUV which can go off-road and ease your conscience, the VW is the answer.
