

We’re really impressed by the cabin’s quality and design. It’s roomy and attractively laid out. However, the central storage tray on the floor is too shallow, and some of the trim on our test car felt a little flimsy.

Here's where the Citroen really excels. All three seats are supportive and it’s a comfortable space to spend time in, even if legroom isn’t as good as in the Altea XL. Handily, the flat floor also hides two cubbyholes.

Among the many family friendly features is a useful cooler with lots of space for drinks. When opened, the door doubles as two cup-holders – but they could do with being a bit deeper.

Tumbling the back seats is a simple one-strap affair. The mechanism requires a tug, but the chairs fold easily to create a near-flat load space. Once down, they give the C4 Picasso the largest overall boot room on test: a generous 1,73
