New Jaguar E-Pace R-Dynamic Black edition joins range

The new Jaguar E-Pace R-Dynamic Black adds gloss black styling tweaks and some extra equipment to the brand's smallest SUV

Jaguar has added a new R-Dynamic Black edition trim to its E-Pace compact SUV line-up. It’s the latest model in the British brand’s stable to receive the new specification, following on from the F-Type, and it’s available to order now, with prices starting from £40,945.

Cosmetic tweaks over the standard Jaguar E-Pace include satin grey 19-inch alloy wheels, red brake calipers, rear privacy glass and a panoramic sunroof. Buyers also get gloss black replacements for the car’s door mirror caps, grille surround, brightwork and air intakes.

Inside, the E-Pace R-Dynamic Black features leather upholstery, air-conditioning, a wireless smartphone charger and Jaguar Land Rover’s latest Pivi Pro infotainment setup, which comprises a 12.3-inch digital driver display and an 11.4-inch curved touchscreen.

The digital dash is fully configurable, offering a range of different layouts for the clocks and navigation instructions. The touchscreen also has Jaguar’s new, simplified menu structure, which means 90 per cent of the unit’s most common tasks can be performed within two taps from the home screen.

Jaguar has also made a few tweaks to the rest of the E-Pace’s line-up. The entry-level S specification now comes as standard with high-beam assist and memory settings for the seats and door mirrors. SE models and above also feature a Meridian sound system, too.

R-Dynamic models get Jaguar’s Configurable Dynamics system, which allows drivers to adjust the E-Pace’s throttle and gearbox response. If equipped with the optional adaptive dampers, the software will also allow for different configurations for the car’s damping.

Every version of the E-Pace now comes with a new Cabin Air Purification system, which uses ultra-fine filters that can remove contaminants down to 2.5 microns in size. Jaguar says the system can also remove unpleasant odours and improve the quality of the cabin air, with the ultimate aim of benefitting the occupants’ health and wellbeing.

Jaguar E-Pace: engines and drivetrains

E-Pace buyers have a choice of three diesels, three petrols and one plug-in hybrid powertrain. The diesel range kicks off with a front-wheel drive 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit, which produces 161bhp and 300Nm of torque. It’s mated to a six-speed manual gearbox and has a claimed WLTP economy figure of 47.1mpg.

However, R-Dynamic Black specification is only available with Jaguar’s mild-hybrid version of the same 2.0-litre diesel engine, with prices starting from £40,945 in R-Dynamic Black trim.

The trim level also comes with a more power 201bhp D200 MHEV unit, or a P200 turbocharged 2.0-litre mild-hybrid unit - all are mated to a nine-speed automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive.
