After a few disappointing years with the 206 and 207, Peugeot's 208 GTi tries to recapture the magic of the 205 GTi.
The 208 GTi is powered by a turbocharged 1.6 litre engine, producing 197bhp.
Interior retains Peugeot's 'i-Cockpit' design, which divides opinion.
208 GTi's get a unique 3D chequerboard grille along with some other sporting touches.
The 208's touchscreen infotainment system is too fiddly to use comfortably on the move.
The part-leather sports seats are comfortable - it's a pity about the slightly awkward driving position.
Opt for the 30th Anniversary model and you'll benefit from fantastic uprated brakes and a trick differential.
All GTi's are tame enough to use as an everyday car.
The six-speed manual gearbox is slick and the steering is accurate, if short on feedback.
Styling touches like the chrome flick on the window line reflect the 205 GTi.
The 208 GTi is available only as a three-door, which limits its practicality next to the five-door Renaultsport Clio.
Despite its powerful engine the 208 GTi can return up to 47.9 mpg, which is pretty good for a hot hatchback.
Maintenance won't be cheap as Peugeot aren't offering any servicing plans.
The 208 GTi is brilliantly stable through the corners.
