Owning a new Focus just became even more affordable. Ford has announced a new version of its family hatch that provides a cheaper entry point to the range.

Starting at £13,995 the Ford Focus Studio effectively replaces the Focus Sport, a final special edition of the previous-generation Focus that's been on sale since October 2010 - selling 15,000 units.

This latest addition means the Focus line-up stretches from £13,995 all the way to £24,000 for the top of the range Titanium X model with a six-speed Powershift gearbox and the 161bhp TDCi engine.

Despite the low price, standard equipment includes 16-inch alloy wheels, a rear spoiler, radio/CD player with USB connectivity, air-conditioning, electric mirrors and electric front windows. Also fitted, to ensure the Studio handles as well as any other Focus, is an ESP system with torque vectoring control.

Available with a 84bhp 1.6-litre petrol engine, the Studio has claimed fuel economy of 47.9mpg. Three colour choices are available - Panther Black, Moondust Silver and Frozen White.

Cheaper and better equipped that a basic bland looking Golf!

And big discounts once the novelty wears off

Of course, that also means poorer residuals than the Golf, but you can't win 'em all.

Good, but...

...how about one without the alloys, spoiler, A/C and power mirrors? That would knock at least a grand off!

Omg!

14k isn't a "low price" it's two thirds of my annual salary! On finance this will be about 250 - 350 per month which is almost as much as my rent! Why are new cars so expensive?

The cheapest Toyota Auris, is £17k not well specified, now as engaging to drive and does not have a premium feeling, limited seat and steering adjustments, no lumber support and you feel like you are sitting on the car rather than in it. £14k is not cheap but for the market leader, that's pretty good comparitively.

However, my advice wait a year and you be able to buy the studio for £10k, or the previous generation 3 yrs old for 6 or 7k
