Ford has announced its plans for a host of new models at the Frankfurt show, including two STs and a future design concept

05th August 2011

There’s a new model bonanza at Ford, with the Blue Oval planning to launch five fully-fledged new models at the Frankfurt Motor show.

On the company’s biggest ever stand at the show – which will include a 2,800m2 track – the focus will be split between an all-new design concept showcasing Ford’s future styling direction, and two hot new performance versions of the brand’s mainstream models.

Leading the charge will be a concept that reveals the latest family-look for the brand, which we won’t see on the road until 2014. It's dubbed by insiders simply as “Kinetic 2.0” and teased in the official invite.

A spokesman for the company said that the concept was “seventy to eighty percent confirmed for production” but by showing it early “there’ll be an opportunity to take customer feedback on board before finalizing the design.”

Heading up the production models will be the Focus ST shown as a concept at the Paris Motor Show last year, which does away with the old five-cylinder turbo engine in favour of an efficient 2.0-litre direct injection unit.

Producing around 247bhp, it should be good for 0-62mph in less than six seconds and a 155mph top speed, putting it on a par with its fiercest rival, the RS Megane 250, but unlike before the Focus will not be available as a coupe.

Joining it on the stand will be the long-awaited Fiesta ST, set to be unveiled as a surprise alongside its bigger brother, with both models hitting showrooms next year.

Featuring a smaller 1.6-litre EcoBoost engine tuned to make around 200bhp. The Fiesta will also borrow the torque-vectoring system from the Focus to aid agility, and will ape its aggressive styling too, with a gaping honeycomb grille and blistered wheel arches.

Completing the set will be the production version of the B-MAX, with new details about its ultra-efficient 1.0-litre three-cylinder EcoBoost engine, and the Ford Ranger pick-up, a global car designed and developed by Ford of Australia. The Ranger will be available in five different bodystyles, with the most efficient model coming with a new 148bhp 2.2-litre TDCi engine.

Oh yes. Buy Opel Astra "Designed in Germany".

The Astra was developed at Opel's European Design Center in Rüsselsheim, continues the evolution of Opel's design language, ‘sculptural artistry meets German precision’ first introduced on the Insignia and won the red dot Design Award 2010.

Vauxhall’s British design boss, Mark Adams Astra is superb

Miki123 is probably a "septic tank" or Crout who works, or should l say does nothing in Fords Marketing department trying to rubbish Vauxhall UK.

Go on Miki123 buy your German Crout assembled Fiesta or Focus that employs 7,000 Crouts in Cologne Germany & 6,524 in Crouts in Saarlouis Germany & help destroy thousands "British" jobs on the Ellsemere Port production lines.

Last car Ford ever assembled in the UK was the superb Escort over a decade ago now.

Folk wonder why this country is in such a mess and we can no longer afford armed forces, police, doctors & nurses who all do a n outstanding work that l value & our kids and grandchildren have no future because irks like Miki123 supports the German crouts & wants to keep them in a job.

Like l said in my first post buy British assembled Astra, Avensis, Auris, Bentley, Civic, Honda C-RV Jaguar, Jazz, Juke, Land Rover, MG, Mini, Note & Quashqai best of British Beef. Don't export British jobs to Germany.

When Ford stop building the Fiesta & Focus with German crout hands then l might like them.

National Front Rant

'Crout' is a derogatory racial slur, and an AutoExpress forum should not be used as a platform to spout your xenophobic rantings. I suggest that Ivor Biggen confines his offensive comments to his National Democrats meets. 'IvorBiggen': yes sir you certainly do; a big attitude, no doubt making up for reductions elsewhere.

Oh grow up

Designer_Drew
I am not in favour of racism or xenophobia, however I do get rather annoyed by the PC briggade, it's like name calling at school, then the teacher dealt with it, noe you get hauled before a court. I'm English, not British, I've never been to Scotland, or Northern Ireland. But if someone called me a Brit or a limey, or whinging pom or whatever, I'll get over it, in actual fact it wouldn't bother me in the slightest!

IvorBiggen does have a relevant point though, which you have glossed over with your PC pottyness; if you continue to buy from abroad our balance of payments will never balance, therefore we'll always be in debt. I do try as much as possible buy British, or at least British made. That's not racist or xenophobic, that's just financial sense!

If you don't like a German made Ford then you must be xenophobic

Liking the American Astra, Japanese Avensis, Japanese Auris, German Bentley, Japanese Civic, Japanese Honda C-RV, India Jaguar, Japanese Jazz, Japanese Juke, Indian Land Rover, Chinese MG, German Mini, Japanese Note & Quashqai car companies cars as posted in my first post is not xenophobic Designer Drew you big child grow.

I like these cars as they are assembled here in the UK, which helps pay for more teachers, doctors nurses, armed forces who do an absolute excellent tough jobs that the UK is struggling to afford at the moment, anything that reduces the huge trade deficit with Germany has gotta be a good thing.

Also just to let you know l am quite well endowed thank you very much, her in doors will vouch for that.

Designer Drew you sound like a very touchy septic tank who has no sense of humour at all, with your "Yes Sir" as only a septic tank would say that. I suggest you get off your computer and go and serve that Focus customer you have waiting in your Stateside Ford showroom.

Bigots

I am grown up and indeed I am English - I simply trade in and believe in a 'world market' - where we are all invited to trade - I'm guessing that the internet does manage to reach you, if the disused coal mines don't get in the way of the signal.

Don't buy a Ford from the boycott the German "Bigots"

Well done Designer Drew at last you are talking sense we agree on something at long last, the Germans have never opened their doors or minds to anybody's cars other than German made cars.

When was the last time a British made car ever made it into Germanys top 10 the the answer is "NEVER" it's always been a 100% German made only in their top 10 since year dot.

I have owned several Fords in the past, but won't buy any German made Fords from the "Bigots" ever again.

Let start a stop & boycott German bigotry campaign Drew, Lets start with don't buy a German made Ford today. Give me your telephone number Designer Drew & together we can end bigotry together once and for all and make them buy other countries cars other than their own.

Germany 1 England 5.

450,000 Brits have just lost their jobs in the public sector because we can no longer afford to live beyond our means - Armed Forces, Teachers, Doctors, Police all don't deserve to it they all do an absolutely excellent first class job. Germans are not bigoted or racist like you think Designer Drew in my opinion they are just a proud nation in my eyes. Its about time we got behind whats left of our manufacturing base and supported it for once.

Anyway Drew after have a beer with my best Kenyan friend last night, l will be out cycling with a Chilean friend today. Will be going on holiday together with a Cypriot & British Guyana friends later this year (Had a holiday last year with a Japanese friend last year).

Whats a Crout?

IvorBiggen, you seem to be able to spout off loads of facts and figures, but you have failed to do your research on the Germans you dont like, I believe the word you are looking for is "kraut" which is basically the German word for cabbage, however it is/was mainly used by the Americans or "septics" as you call them, the British used the nickname "Fritz" or "Jerry".

I take offence to your idiotic comments.

Shaun34 - British Army for 23 years (you know those who you claim to be protecting) veteran of both Gulf wars, Northern Ireland, Sarajevo, Bosnia, Kosovo and Afghanistan and married to a German.

Grow up boy.

Jaguar, Ford, Land Rover, Bentley and Rolls Royce, Saved by the Germans

Lets not forget some of the UK's favorite brands were saved by Germany and India, without which they would have sunk into history a long time ago. Buy whatever car you like, its why many have died fighting for freedom, so we have the feedom of choice.

By Cyeber on 8 August, 2011, 10:47am

Crout ?! Short for 'croûtons' ??

Odd use of the English language by the nutter at the top. Shaun thankfully came to the rescue with the correct spelling of the WWII slang for a German - which everyone of course knows was 'kraut'. And yes, it's another one of those irritating Americanisms! (e.g. it's a 'bonnet' that covers an engine - a 'hood' is the fabric covered roof on a roadster).

Mind you, whilst his strange rant was spoilt by poor grammar and some odd language, he did make some good points about British jobs. We still seem clueless here at times with our import policies. The Japanese restrict our trade to Japan, yet expect open trade barriers when they want to export to us.

Why? Why do we do this? Quid Pro Quo surely?

And the French and Italian and German public have long supported their own home spun products WAY more than we have ever supported ours.

The result is, all three countries still have their own indigenous car manufacturing industries in tact whilst ours has long since vanished into the sand.

Ford are not seriously offering us two searingly UGLY WIDE MOUTHED Frogs are they ?!?!

Surely these 'images' of the two new ST's must be daft artist impressions? They can't seriously have taken one stunning looking cute car - the new Fiesta - and stuck an ugly gapping mouth on the front of their flag ship and thought 'that looks good' ... please tell us this isn't so!

I've had a lot of Fords in the past - Escorts, an XR2, two Focus ST 2.5s, an old shape Galaxy and two S-Max's as the family has grown. But I also currently drive a Mini Cooper because I've been waiting for a proper high performance mark 6 Fiesta since its launch 3 years ago.

But has my wait been in vain? Arrrgh!!!! If this hideous gapping image is even remotely the shape of the new Fiesta ST - I will be shocked, stunned, and completely dismayed and turned right off Fiestas until they show me something good looking again.

Sadly, few Fords look great anymore - our S-MAX is I fear the last of the good looking Ford revolution that started with the new Mondeo and ended with the Mark 6 Fiesta.

Ford once made stunning looking Fast Fords in the 70's and 80's. They lost their way completely in the 90's but recaptured some of their lost magic with the first decent looking Ford in the mark 3 Mondeo in 2000.

These pics make their cars look a total JOKE - and they're in horrid colours - mustard yellow and brown!?!? Please tell me these shapes are not true!

Cabbage Patch Kid

Surely it is US who are the cabbages for not supporting our own car industry?

Rover bashing was a national sport when that late, lamented company was still trading, and okay, they didn't make the very best cars in the universe but they weren't bad. The Rover 75 was probably the best of the bunch towards the end of Rover's life and it exuded the sort of pedigree early Rovers sported in most regards, except that it should have been rear wheel drive, and what did we do? Listen to idiots like Clarkson slagging it off, that's what.

Our last volume car manufacturer might have stood a chance with a little encouragement from home grown auto-journalists. Now Rover is gone and all we are left with is a Pseudo-British car industry and a very few niche manufacturers. Ah the shame of it....

By sgtgrash on 14 August, 2011, 2:06am

Afterword

I'd just like to add that most Americans were well aware that their homegrown car manufacturers weren't making the best vehicles in the world around the same time as Rovers demise and yet a sizable chunk of the population remained fiercely loyal to the US brands. If only we'd taken a leaf out of their books, eh?
