Need a guardian angel to keep watch over you on unfamiliar roads? Road Angel has just launched its new Gem speed-management device, which promises to do just that.

The company claims this is its most advanced gadget yet. It has all you need to keep tabs on speed limits, safety cameras and accident black spots.

The small and compact Gem has a full-colour display for visual alerts, and emits a warning about the speed limit as you approach a safety camera.

Not only is it claimed to be super-accurate, but the new slimline design is said to offer an improved user interface, so it should be easier to use than previous Road Angel products.

The compact device also has a unique feature in the form of eAssist. This connects you directly to an emergency call centre in the event of an accident.

What’s more, the Gem can update itself using mobile phone technology – so there’s no need to connect it to a computer for the latest software – and you can also share safety camera locations with other users.

Better still, this connectivity lets you provide feedback about new or revised speed limits via a new feature called SpeedShare.

If the entire community of Road Angel owners made use of this function, it would guarantee the most up-to-date digital map of speed limits in Britain.

The Gem is powered by your car’s 12v socket, and attaches to your windscreen using suction cup mounts. It costs £129.99.
