Best car cleaners of 2011

We look back at some of the best car cleaners we’ve reviewed in the past 12 months

Best paint polisher: Meguiar’s G220 Dual Action Polisher

Price: £199.99

Contact: www.meguiars.co.uk

It’s long been a professionals’ favourite, so when the G220 Dual Action Polisher was updated we had to try it. Having tested it in June, we weren’t disappointed, either. The large handle makes the machine buffer easy to hold, and it’s ideal for beginners to learn with. You can increase the pad’s rotation and speed using the dial on the back, and a cruise control function maintains the spin regardless of the pressure you apply. It takes the strain out of paint preparation – plus it comes with a great storage bag.

Best rain repellent: Trico EnduroShield

Price: £14.95

Contact: 0845 299 6229, www.enduroshield.co.uk

At first this rain repellent looks poor value, as you get only 50ml and it costs more than rivals. Yet testing it in August, we found this revised formula had superb stamina on glass. It was still working months after rivals had disappeared. Impressive.

Best screen wash: Prestone Screen Wash

Price: £5.99

Contact: 0161 866 4800, www.holtsauto.com

This ready-mix caught our eye during our test in May. It was the runner-up due to its price, but if you’re prepared to pay for convenience and performance then this is the one for you this winter. Our trial showed it was a match for many all-season rivals in the summer, too. An excellent performer – just not the cheapest buy.
