Ring RTG6 tyre gauge

Keep tabs on your car’s tyre pressures with the latest Ring Automotive gauges. The firm has launched a
new family of handhelds, priced from £8.99 to £16.99, and we’ve tried the range-topping RTG6.

Dominating this small device is a large backlit digital screen. Click a button to the right and the display fires into life, ready to take a reading in psi. Hit a button, and you can switch to Kpa or bar read-outs.

There’s a 360-degree nozzle, so checking the pressure is easy. And accuracy was spot-on, too; the Ring gave exactly the same reading as our calibrated control gauge.

Less impressive is the LED, which is supposed to illuminate the valve cap so you can check your tyres in a dark garage. It doesn’t put out as much light as we’d have hoped.

A tread depth gauge is included, and it’s brilliant, with a large enough switch that you can slide it with
a gloved hand. This almost justifies the high price.

Verdict

Rating: ★★★★
What is it?
A handy way to check your tyre pressures in dark garages or at night.
Problems?
Difficult to get battery cap off, LED light isn’t very bright, expensive choice.
Why buy?
Easy to use with clear display, provides psi, Kpa and bar read-outs, includes tread depth gauge as part of the package.
