Gerber Crucial multi-tool

Price: £49.99 Rating: 4/5

Gerber Crucial multi-tool

The latest addition to Gerber’s range of multi-tools lives up to its name – as the Crucial features only the tools you’re likely to use most often.

Included in the small, lightweight package is a set of pliers, a blade with a serrated section, cross and flat screwdrivers and a bottle opener. Despite the stripped-down spec, though, Gerber’s usual quality shines through.

The blade, which can be opened one-handed and locks in place, is super sharp, while the slender pliers sailed through our cutting and wire stripping tests.

We like the smooth handles, which ensure excellent comfort even when you apply lots of force. Yet the drivers are not so well thought-out – they’re short and you’ll need a lot of room around the screw head.

Not ideal, but a small price to pay for a tool that can easily be slipped into your car’s glovebox for emergencies.

Verdict

 * Problems? Limited use due to small size and cut-down tool selection. High price.
