Three car garage: £25k for a BMW 320i, Audi A5 Cab and a Nissan Leaf

We’ve got £25,000 burning a hole in our pocket, and a three-car garage to fill. What will a dip into the Auto Express used car classifieds turn up?

When you’re armed with an imaginary £25,000, the used car classifieds on Auto Express are a goldmine of interesting possibilities. I was after a cost effective town car, something fun and flexible for family use and a car with a touch of class for summer cruising. I think i’ve hit the jackpot with this selection…

Nissan Leaf - £4,882

An inexpensive urban runaround that’s cheap to run, a sub-70,000-mile Nissan Leaf for less than £5k seems like a good way to tick off a car for the boring urban runarounds. The Leaf was never the last word in driving pleasure, but it’s comfortable around town and has plenty of space for kids and shopping. The range is pretty woeful by modern standards - less than 100 miles in the real world for this nine-year-old model. But for short hops it ticks the box, and this example looks pretty tidy.

Audi A5 Cabriolet - £7,449

Any three-car garage should have something fun, and drop-top cruising in an Audi with over 240bhp on tap sounds like fun to me. Admittedly diesel engines and convertibles have been slightly uncomfortable bedfellows, but Audi’s 3.0-litre was a refined and punchy unit.

This Audi A5 Cabriolet has space for four, as long as the two in the back are fairly small, and although the interior is showing signs of over 100,000 miles of use, just two previous owners in more than a decade tells a story of what it’s like to live with.

If you’ve missed out on this Audi A5 Cabriolet, there are plenty more used convertibles for under £10,000 available on Auto Express.

BMW 320i Touring - £12,329

BMW 3 Series Touring - front tracking

Family cars that are also fun when you’re on your own aren’t always easy to come by, but the BMW 3 Series Touring has always been squarely in the box marked ‘all the car you’ll ever need’. Admittedly, a 330i or 330d would be more fun while still not breaking the bank, but the 320i was also a sweet powertrain, and this one hasn’t even quite ticked over the 60,000-mile mark in its 10 years, so hasn’t been used too hard. The colour is also pretty different to the silver that seems to have dominated BMW’s order bank for years, and there are loads of pics on the listing to show the car’s decent condition.

If this BMW estate was too fast for you, check out hundreds of listings of practical estate cars available now from Auto Express’s network of trusted dealers.
