Lamborghini LP560-4

If our champion was judged purely on looks, there’s little doubt the LP560-4 would be a clear winner. No other design shouts performance more, and with its revised styling the reworked Gallardo has greater presence than ever.

The mighty V10 has been boosted to 5.2 litres and 552bhp. As a result, the LP560-4 rivals the Porsche 911 GT2 in terms of sheer acceleration. But there’s more to this Italian stunner than pure power. The low-slung driving position and leather-smothered cabin mean just sitting in it feels special. On the track, its four-wheel-drive traction makes it easier to exploit than the GT2, accompanied by an intoxicating exhaust wail.
The e-gear transmission offers brutal upshifts and lovely downshifts in its fastest setting, but makes sluggish changes in normal mode. Sharper handling gives immense cornering grip, too. The brakes lack the Porsche’s feel and bite, yet the Lambo is more agile than its size and weight suggest. Crucially, it offers the sense of drama and demands the respect a true supercar should.
