Jaguar XE and XF gain R-Dynamic Black models

The new sporty R-Dynamic Black trim level heads XE and XF line-ups with black styling features and more standard kit

Jaguar has added a new range-topping R-Dynamic Black trim level to its XF, bringing sporty design cues and increased standard equipment to the brand’s mid-sized saloon. The smaller XE received the new specification last year, and gains additional features as part of the update.

For a more purposeful look, both models receive gloss black mirror caps, sill trims and 19-inch wheels with red brake calipers. R-Dynamic Black trim now includes privacy glass and a panoramic sunroof for the XE, as well as the XF, and black detailing extends to the front grille, fender vents and badging. The chrome side window surrounds of lesser models are also replaced with gloss black items.

The new trim level brings a darkened interior theme to both cars, with Gloss Grey Figured Ebony and Satin Charcoal Ash wood veneer trims for the XE and XF respectively. Each gets bright metal pedal faces, while the XF features Premium Cabin Lighting that provides 30 different ambient lighting colours, compared to the previous 10 options.

The XE and XF R-Dynamic Black are fitted with the existing range of 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium petrol and diesel powerplants, the latter available with 48-volt mild-hybrid tech. Drive is sent to the rear wheels through an 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox, with Jaguar’s Intelligent Driveline Dynamics four-wheel drive system available as an option.

Both R-Dynamic Black models are equipped with Jaguar’s latest Pivi Pro infotainment system, with integrated Apple CarPlay and Android Auto - wireless connectivity for both will soon be available via an over-the-air update. These updates can be installed seamlessly without visiting a dealer, and both the XE and XF can be specified with a wireless charging pad that boosts mobile network reception.

Refinement is a Jaguar strong suit, and the XF furthers this with Active Noise Cancellation that cancels out low-frequency sounds on the move. Both saloons benefit from Jaguar’s air ionisation system that improves cabin air quality.

The XE R-Dynamic Black is offered in a choice of five metallic paint finishes, with prices starting from £33,470. The range-topping XF is available with a free choice of paint colours and starts from £37,535, rising to £39,395 for the Sportbrake estate.
