New Volkswagen Scirocco GTS revealed

Facelifted VW Scirocco GTS all-set for Shanghai Motor Show unveil

The new Volkswagen Scirocco GTS has been revealed ahead of its debut at the Shanghai Motor Show next week. It comes with a new paint job, exclusive alloy wheels and an updated infotainment system. Prices and exact UK specs will be revealed closer to the car’s launch later in 2015.

The new GTS replaces the outgoing model, which first went on sale here in 2013. As before, the GTS uses engines from the existing line-up – in this case the 217bhp 2.0-litre petrol from the Golf GTI, although we expect UK buyers to get a choice of diesel power too. Fuel economy and emissions for the petrol car stand at 46.3mpg and 142g/km, hitting 62mph in around 6.5 seconds.

In terms of styling, all cars come with new 18-inch ‘Norwich’ alloy wheels, while larger 19s are available as an option. Red brake callipers are standard, as is the R-Line exterior package – adding bigger bumpers, custom side skirts, a rear roof spoiler, dual exhausts and sporty diffuser.

The wing mirrors are painted black, and buyers get the option of GTS decals and stripes, too. There’s a choice of six colours: Deep Black, Indium Grey, Urano Grey, Pure White, Oryx White and Flash Red.

Inside, all cars get black headlining, piano black trim, GTS badges and a set of stainless steel pedals. There’s a load of contrasting red stitching, as well as sporty seats with GTS logos. Options include leather, xenon headlamps, and a panoramic sunroof.

The centre console is dominated by the new modular infotainment system, first seen in the VW Golf Mk7. This setup will be available across the Scirocco range from next month, too – though sat-nav remains an optional extra.
