New Volkswagen up! R-Line revealed

New styling kit for regular versions of the up! inject a bit of GTI appeal, but it won't be an option for UK buyers

VW up! r-Line

A new R-Line version of the Volkswagen up! has arrived, joining the 113bhp GTI variant at the sportier end of the city car’s line-up.

Offered as an exterior package, it’ll cost up! buyers on the continent €795 (£707 approx). There are currently no plans to bring the package to the UK.

Unlike the up! GTI it isn’t a hotter offering with extra power, and is instead a sportier looking version of the regular up!, boasting a new bodykit and alloy wheels.

The up! R-Line is tweaked over more everyday looking versions of the firm’s Toyota Aygo rival with an angular, sporty looking front bumper complete with chrome trim on the fog light housings, similar in look to the one equipped on the GTI.

Similarly, the rear bumper also appears to have been inspired by the GTI version of the city car, with a more pronounced diffuser style section housing a singular exhaust exit.

Elsewhere, the up! R-Line gains body coloured side sills, a silver strip in the radiator grille, plenty of R-Line badging, tinted rear side windows and rear window, a black roof and black mirror caps, and a new set of alloy wheels.

As standard, the R-Line is equipped with 16-inch wheels, but a different design 17-inches in size - and available in black - is on the options list.
