It's out in the open! This is the clearest picture yet of the daring new Renault Scenic.
We’ve already published a spy shot of the seven-seater Grand Scenic (Issue 1,107) – and now we can show you how the standard five-seater MPV will look when the range makes its world debut at the Paris Motor Show in October.
It’s due to hit dealers early in 2009, and gets headlights inspired by those on the new Laguna family model. A more aerodynamic shape gives it a sportier, more upmarket look – but even though designers have worked hard to provide a sharper appearance, the main focus of the people carrier will still be practicality.
The seat arrangement will continue to set the standard in the class, with an easy-to-use folding mechanism giving a completely flat load area. And whether the seats are up or down, the Scenic will offer an even bigger load capacity – complete with special lockable stowage areas.
The cabin will benefit from a more upmarket look and a step forward in quality. And while the engine range has still to be confirmed, it’s expected that entry-level models will get a 1.4-litre petrol powerplant developed from the 100bhp unit available in the current model.
There will also be the option of two diesel engines, in the shape of 1.5 and 2.0-litre dCi oil-burners.
Bosses have yet to announce details of prices, but the bold new look and more upmarket interior is likely to mean a slight rise – so the Scenic could start at around £15,000 when it arrives here in the spring.
