Some tantalising performance figures have been leaked by Ford Austria for the Focus RS – and they’re just as shocking as its lurid green paint job!
The 296bhp front-wheel-drive hot hatch will cover 0-60mph in 5.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 164mph. But Ford is adamant that, thanks to its revolutionary ‘RevoKnuckle’ suspension, the RS will have no problems putting power to the tarmac. The newcomer will be priced at £33,000 in Austria – but as the Focus ST costs 20 per cent more there than it does here, a figure of £25,000 is likely in the UK.
The Focus isn’t the only model that’s hotting up. A pumped-up VW Scirocco is also coming. It takes styling cues from the GT24 racer, but instead of a 3.2-litre V6, it will use a 261bhp 2.0-litre turbo unit from the Audi S3. Set to be badged the R20T, the car is due to appear early in 2010.
