Ford has confirmed that its all-new, third generation Focus will cost just under £16,000 when sales start in March. The newcomer will only be available as a five-door hatch initially, with a practical estate version coming on stream in September. An Econetic version will be added later in 2011, while the high performance ST goes on sale in 2012.

The entry-level Focus is called the Edge and is powered by a 104bhp 1.6-litre petrol engine. The 94bhp 1.6-litre TDCi diesel version costs £16,995.

All cars get Ford’s Torque Vectoring system which debuted in the C-MAX, plus a DAB digital radio, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, front, side and curtain airbags, voice control, ESP, ABS and Isofix.

The step up from the Edge is Zetec, which costs £1,000 more, and adds 16-inch alloys, Ford’s Quickclear heated windscreen, a leather steering wheel, front fog lights and sports seats.

Titanium trim starts at £18,785 for the 123bhp 1.6-litre petrol, with cars getting keyless go, dual-zone climate control, hill start assist, automatic wipers and headlights, cruise control and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

The range-topping Titanium X starts at £21,245 for the 148bhp 1.6-litre, Ecoboost petrol, and gets everything lesser cars feature, plus partial leather trim, 17-inch alloy wheels, parking sensors, bi-xenon headlights, LED daytime running lights, headlight washers, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat and electric folding mirrors.

And if the impressive list of standard kit isn’t comprehensive enough, Ford will offer options packages with features that wouldn’t be out of place on a car several classes above. Highlights include a low speed crash avoidance system which automatically brakes the car if a hazard is detected, lane departure warning system and a blind spot monitor, and a Sony navigation system which incorporates a rear-view camera.

As well as the palette of usual colours, Ford will also offer the option of two candy paint hues in yellow or red (pictured).

The full engine line-up features the 1.6-litre petrol engines, producing 104bhp, 123bhp and 148bhp, and 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre diesels with 94bhp, 113bhp, 138bhp and 161bhp.

The 2.0-litre diesels are also available with Ford’s dual-clutch gearbox, while the smaller diesels get stop-start as standard.

RE: Rip Off Britain

Don't forget these will prob be worth at least 30% less than list after 12 month. Let the mugs buys these new & take advantage of them as nearly new. Its a Ford, there'll be plenty of them around to choose from.

Don't forget the discount

Anyone who pays full price for a new Ford needs their head examining. There'll be a bow wave of fools prepared to pay at launch for the very latest model but, by September, the dealers will be discounting the Edge down to £14k or so.
Buy one in early 2012 and there may be another £1,000 off.
Comparing with American prices needs to be done carefully as different equipment levels and state sales taxes will muddy the waters.

what a mistake

What an ugly car ! The new design was brought in early as the current model is so ugly they didn't sell as many as they needed . This rehash is worse , well done Ford . The rest of the range are brilliantly designed so why didn't they bother with the bread an butter Focus ??

By jarhead on 16 December, 2010, 8:26am

Is it just me....

...or is this car frightfully ugly?

By Kingbob12 on 16 December, 2010, 10:09am

Are people mad?

The pricing of the Focus is on par with cars way above it's quality level! It will also lose money dramatically in the first three years. Anyone paying over £22,000 for a Focus needs their head read!

The design, if it can be called design, is no better than the previous (current) model. Ford Kinetic Design!! Meaningless phrase for an ugly design!

Poor value...

It would be nice if AE would actually analyse this information and provide some interesting reading, not just issue a press release.

My analysis reads as £16,000 gets you a 1.6 104 bhp petrol, at base trim and with no alloys..

For the same money you could buy a Fabia vRS - 180 bhp, likely to be similar economy at 45 mpg (if you don't plant it..), alloys, sports seats, etc. i.e. overall it comes with much better equipment than the Ford at that price level.

Badge snobs would say the brand value of the Skoda is that much lower - I'd rather drive something slightly rarer than the Focus which will be everywhere. But also under the skin it shares the same components as VWs.

I'd rather have a supremely better car and wear the badge that says I'm smart with my money.

Anyone's thoughts??

Poor value...

Granted, the Ford will offer fairly heavy discounts on the Focus, which I'm unsure if Skoda does on the vRS. But it would have to come down significantly to be on a par with engine and equipment levels with the Skoda.

By Mew10666 on 16 December, 2010, 1:23pm

Nicely done

I personally think this is well judged compared to the old model. I don't care if it's ugly, or won't beat the Golf. I reckon this is will be an exceptional all-rounder, one way or another.

By JPW2010 on 16 December, 2010, 5:56pm

What Went Wrong?

I remember when the Focus was first introduced and WOW, it was an outstanding design moving on from the escort and I purchased one.

I am sure it will still be fantastic to drive but they have well and truly turned it into an ugly duckling with each incarnation!

Horrid!

Dorset

I wasnt aware the New Focus was on sale as yet so how can you all know so much about this car ?
I will make my mind up when I seen them on the road and have sat in one, I suggust you all do the same as well.

By Streetka4 on 16 December, 2010, 8:12pm

Look Elsewhere

This is nothing short of extortion! It's just a bit of fashion fodder that is priced way too high. Sorry Ford, but you lost a fan when your prices got silly and the kit level remained low.

Focus Made in Germany is very underwhelming

GM's sleek new Astra Made in Britain will outsell the updated Ford Focus that underwhelms.

I won't be rushing out to buy one, the Fiesta is brilliant what went wrong with the new Focus?

By IvorBiggen on 18 December, 2010, 12:28am

I'm struggling to see how someone can think the Astra and Fiesta good looking, but the new Focus ugly - They are all from a very similar mould. Having seen the Focus at the Geneva motorshow earlier this year I must say it looks a lot better in he metal than in Fords Press photographs. The estate in particular is exceptionally good looking. As for price, model for model its around £1000 more than the equivalent old model, but its a Ford so it wont be long before huge discounts follow.

By BEREAL on 23 December, 2010, 6:19am

ON THE BUTTON

Ford are not trying to fool anyone...
The focus needed a change to keep it in touch with other manufacturers....
This NEW focus drives and handles much better than the old ones coupled with its NEW design it makes it a much safer car....
Ford have done there homework and tjhis is what retail customers want along with its NEW blue tag pricing.....
Bet this car becomes europes best selling car replacing the NEW FIESTA....

By Saggy666 on 31 December, 2010, 11:22am

£16,000!!!!!!!! For this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can think of much better ways of spending £16,000 on a car!!

By JTravolta77 on 31 December, 2010, 6:39pm

Looks Like a Last generation KIA!

Looks bland, almost Escort-ish and the rear is hideous.

Ford need to tear up the design concept and start again, just like they did with the Mk1 Focus

Ford Fiesta VS Focus HB

Here in the states we are like the song "Second Hand Rose". We do not have the excellent selection of Ford models and there engines.
Also, 4 years ago when GM bought the Astra 3 @5 door hatch it was a big flop as the engine was too small or in oder to get a moonroof you had to buy the 4dr.Although heated seats were standard in the 3dr.I think the Astra was such a flop GM sold it.
I think the Fous HB will be way over priced A loaded Fiesta SES is 800.00 over here and you can buy a base VW golf with lumbar support , grab handles, bluetooth, multilevel heated seatsFord has only driverside cusion heated, and sync.Ford has no lumbar, grab handles, sunglass stow,or heats multilevel heatedseats for driver and passenger So I bought the VW Golf for 18K and got a set of VW alloys off a gent who bought a Golf that with ten spoke wheels on tdi for plus tire for 0.00 totaling ,500.00

By Harry on 6 January, 2011, 4:03pm

Opps sorry about that

I thought you could edit your post here a loaded Fiesta SES is ,080.00.I paid ,500.00 for VW OTD.

By Harry on 6 January, 2011, 4:13pm

ouch! ugly

not a progressive design at all, it sticks out like a sore thumb in the range. astra, alfa and c4 all look a million years ahead in terms of styling.

By jonjon00 on 8 January, 2011, 11:53pm

Not Ugly

Believe me it looks much better in the metal.
