Next Civic spied by reader

UK-specific tuning for next Honda Civic to help it take on new Focus.

The next Honda Civic has arrived! Thanks to an eagle-eyed reader, we have pictures of a UK registered mule of the next Civic. Spotted testing just before Christmas, the mule wears the same disguise seen on German test cars spied previously.

The new pictures give little away, but do show that the new car features a similar silhouette to the current Civic, which was recently facelifted. The next Civic is more likely to be a thorough updating of the current car rather than an all-new model.

Small detail changes include the more curved C-pillar which reveals that the rear of the car will feature revised bodywork. This will also include the removal of the rear spoiler which obscures rear visibility, and the addition of a rear window wiper.

Although Honda Europe is based here, and the car is built in Swindon, new car development happens at the firm’s R&D centre in Germany. The fact that the Civic has been spied testing on UK roads is significant, as Honda seeks to ensure the newcomer drives as well as the new Focus.

We’ll get an indication of the styling direction of the next Civic with the unveil of the new US market car at the Detroit Motor Show. However, the UK spec car is still 12 months away.

They've listened!

Good to see that Honda have listened to criticism of the previous model, and have fitted a rear wiper to the new model.

Believe what???

Believe what Alan? Were you referring to the rear wiper which appears as clear as day in the pics, or perhaps it was a comment on the fact that Honda has listened to its customers? Either way you are wrong...

pointless

oh my god more pointless pictures from Auto Express. There no different from the ones that were shown a couple of months ago.
Its no wonder i stopped buying the magazine. At least when you look at pointless tripe like this its free. Oh well at least its not one of there even more pointless Artists Impressions which look nothing like the end product.

Hope they have got rid of that stupid pointless spoiler. If cars are following you with their headlights on, the spoiler keeps interrupting the light so you thing they are flashing their headlights. If Honda had to have the spoiler, the could have mounted it at the top of the rear window. There is plenty of room.

What about the suspension?

Posting these photos is a bit like the sun saying, look photos of a celebrity whose had facial surgery, Posting these photos is a bit like the sun saying, look photos of a celebrity whose had facial surgery, then showing a photo of someone with a bag on their head.

The main issue Honda need to deal with here is putting multi link suspension on and catching back up with the pack. And, making the Type R an actual Type R not an insult to their own brand.

Given the economic climate, I suspect not...
