Worst cars ever: vote now!

We've put together a shortlist of awful cars, and we want you to tell us which is the worst car ever

By:Auto Express team
8 Sep 2014

Car makes don't always get things quite right when they produce a new model. It's getting less common these days, but motor manufacturers have put out some truly awful products over the years, and we want to find out which one you think is the number one worst car ever.

Take a look through the gallery above to see our nominations, and then leave a comment below (or via Twitter or Facebook) with the name of the car you think is the worst ever. You can even tell us why you think that is - perhaps you even owned one of these monstrosities.

Here's our full shortlist:

• Rover CityRover• Suzuki X-90• Renault Safrane• FSO Polonez• Lexus SC 430• Citroen C3 Pluriel• Chrysler PT Cruiser Convertible• Hyundai Pony• Mitsubishi Mirage• Lada Riva• Austin Allegro• Kia Pride• Morris Marina• Alfa Romeo Arna• Nissan Micra C+C• G-Wiz• Austin Ambassador• Nissan Cube• Ssangyong Rodius• Chrysler Ypsilon

Let us know which one of these you think is the worst car of all time in the comments section below...

  • Rover CityRover

    <span>The CityRover was launched in 2003, as part of the long and painful death of the British brand. Despite a bargain sub-£7,000 price at launch, the CityRover, a rebranded version of India's <span>Tata Indica supermini,</span>&nbsp;

  • Suzuki X-90

<span>The Suzuki Vitara SUV and Cappuccino roadster might have some niche appeal, but the X-90 took that theme a bit too far. Who wanted a two-seater converible mini-SUV? Nobody, especially when it had awful handling, limited off-road

  • Renault Safrane

When the Renault Safrane was launched in 1992 it was the most expensive Renault you could buy, and aimed to take on the Germans in the luxury saloon market. Aside from the dull and dreary design, the launch Safrane was also completely

  • FSO Polonez

<span>Poland’s Fabryka Samochodów Osobowych&nbsp;(FSO) Polonez was a rebodied Fiat 125p: it was cheap, performed poorly and lacked any desirability at all. The Polonez was actually in production for 24 years worldwide, but don't take t

  • Lexus SC 430

<span>Before the incredible LFA supercar, the Lexus line-up was a bit of a dull affair, and the brand felt it needed something to draw people into its showrooms. The SC 430 was the result, but it failed to impress - with its bulbous st

  • Citroen C3 Pluriel

<span>With its removable roof rails, you could turn the Citroen C3 Pluriel into a convertible anywhere. Well, anywhere that you could store the huge rails following a frustrating afternoon of removing them. Many roofs leaked, and the c

  • Chrysler PT Cruiser Convertible

<span>The PT Cruiser wasn't exactly pretty, but when the roof came off in 2005 it cemented its place in this list. Take the roof off and everyone can see the face of the person who bought one of the ugliest cars ever. Add in a lack of

  • Hyundai Pony

The Hyundai Pony was South Korea's first mass-produced car, so perhaps we can forgive the fact that the car was terrible. In fact, the car was produced with the help of the same man who oversaw the launch of the Morris Marina - one of

  • Mitsubishi Mirage

Poor handling and a very low-rent feel mean the Mitsubishi Mirage is bottom of its class in many categories - and it doesn't even have a super-cheap price to reflect that. Buy a Dacia Sandero instead.

  • Lada Riva

The Lada Riva's success around the world was certainly not because it was good to drive, comfortable or well built. In fact it was terrible in all of those areas, and even an old Ford Sierra will trump a Lada Riva in any category. That

  • Austin Allegro

The Austin Allegro was a common sight on British roads when it was new, with sales managers across the country being given one as a company car. British Leyland missed a huge opportunity when it produced the car, however, with the VW G

  • Kia Pride

With its horrible whitewall tyres and ugly boxy looks, the Kia Pride is nothing like the excellent Kia Rio that's available today. It was based on the Ford Festiva, but in the UK the Pride was only available in the base trim with a slu

  • Morris Marina

The Morris Marina was a top seller when it was on sale in the UK, but that didn't mean it was a great car - in fact, the terrible handling and awful build quality mean it was a truly bad car. Problems with BL in the 1970s meant the car

  • Top 10 worst cars - Alfa Romeo Arna green

The Alfa Romeo Arna was a 50:50 venture between Nissan and Alfa Romeo. In our minds the build quality of a Japanese car mixed with the beauty of an Italian one is a perfect recipe. It's just a shame that the Arna features Alfa Romeo's

  • Nissan Micra C+C

The Nissan Figaro has a bit of a cult following, and Nissan tried to grab a chunk of that market with its Micra C+C. It didn't get it right, though, with the car turning out to be incredibly ugly an terrible to drive.

  • Austin Ambassador

The Austin Ambassador makes its way onto this list as it was the successor to the&nbsp;Austin Princess - and it turned out to be even worse. It was slow, ugly to look at and terrible in the corners, cementing its place among the worst

  • Nissan Cube

The Nissan Cube might not be the most offensive car in the world, but it's certainly one of the ugliest. There's a reason why most cars are styled symmetrically: the Cube is an example of what happens when they aren't.

  • Top 10 worst cars - SsangYong Rodius front tracking

Cars are often divisive when it comes to looks, with some loving the looks of a certain model and others hating it. The Ssangyong Rexton has not split the Auto Express office, however: there's no question about its hideous design.

  • Chrysler Ypsilon

The&nbsp;Chrysler Ypsilon might be based on the Fiat Panda, which we really like, but it can't match the Fiat. In fact it's one of the worst cars you can buy today. The ugly design, harsh ride and high price all add up to a terrible pa
