Continental PremiumContact 7 review

Following our mini test earlier this year, we knew the Continental was good, and it backed that up with a win against wider opposition

Continental has found something special with the PremiumContact 7. We knew it was good, but the margin of its win took us by surprise, particularly because it was up against other new designs. In a test where wins are usually taken by a couple of tenths of a point, the PremiumContact 7 had more than a one-per cent overall advantage over the next best.

After a few wobbles in recent years, the German tyre maker is back on track with its ‘best in braking’ target, taking the win in the wet by a metre when most of the rest were separated by centimetres. It also took the
win in dry braking by a smaller margin.

On the wet-handling circuit it had a sharp feel that others lacked and inspired confidence to carry more speed into turns, thanks to the stable rear. It was less effective in the deeper water of the aquaplaning tests but was still among the leaders.

The steering sharpness and good traction were there in the dry, too. Over the noise-test strips, the pitch was low, and it felt well damped on the rough asphalt, finishing in second place. Factor in a competitive rolling-resistance result and you have a clear winner.

Blackcircles.com says...

"Launched in late 2022, this tyre shows early signs of being popular, with a rating of 5/5. Customers mention the tyre’s good all-round performance."
