Even though we don’t get the kind of snowfalls seen in some parts of Europe, don’t dismiss the idea of changing to winter tyres.

Specialist patterns are better in the wet than standard rubber when the temperature dips below seven degrees Celsius.

Expect to pay around 20 per cent more for winter tyres. If storing a set of treads, and possibly wheels, is tricky, why not check out all-season designs for year-round use?
